The Condition

What is a Stricture?

Imagine a garden hose with a kink in it. The water pressure builds up behind it, but only a trickle comes out.

A Urethral Stricture is scar tissue inside your urine pipe that narrows the opening. It causes slow flow, straining, and incomplete emptying.

The Solution: OIU

Optical Internal Urethrotomy is a procedure where we pass a tiny camera inside the urethra. We use a specialized "Cold Knife" or Laser to precisely cut the scar tissue from the inside, springing the tube open.

What to Expect

Simple Steps to Recovery

1. Diagnosis (RGU/MCU)

We perform a dye test (X-ray) to see exactly where the blockage is and how long it is.

2. The OIU Procedure

Under anesthesia, the stricture is incised endoscopically. A silicone catheter is placed to keep the tube open while it heals.

3. Catheter Removal

The catheter is typically removed after 3-5 days. You will notice an immediate improvement in urine speed.

Honest Medical Advice

OIU is excellent for short strictures (<1cm). However, strictures have a tendency to come back.

If you have a long stricture or if OIU has failed before, doing it again won't help. You likely need Urethroplasty (Permanent Repair). Dr. Rahul will guide you to the right choice based on your X-rays.
